Brooklyn Brewery isn’t the only one getting into the distilling business. Heartland’s brewmaster, Kelly Taylor, tells us that Tuthilltown Spirits, the only New York distillery to open since Prohibition, is currently using unfermented samples of his brewery’s Farmer Jon’s Oatmeal Stout to make a small-batch whiskey that should be restaurant-ready in about four months.
Brother Oren Bloostein (owner of Oren’s Daily Roast) Jon Bloostein (owner of Heartland Brewery) have teamed up to introduce a new brand called Oren’s Daily Porter. One dollar from the sales of each pint of Oren’s Daily Porter will go towards the International Rescue Committee’s efforts to provide clean water to people of Ethiopia.
